How to judge plumbing work

Most plumbing emergencies are the visible end of a slow problem: a supply line that has been weeping behind drywall, a water heater whose anode rod gave up years ago, or a drain line that has been narrowing with scale. The value of a good plumber is largely in catching the slow version before it becomes the loud one.

Water pressure, pipe material and water chemistry interact more than most homeowners expect. Hard water shortens fixture life; pressure above roughly 80 psi stresses every joint in a house. Asking what a plumber measures — not just what they replace — is a fair way to judge one.

This is a follow up from Marilyn Yorks review. We had since got a second opinion on our main drain line that kept backing up that the technician from Northside plumbing had told us we needed to replace our whole main drain. We went with A-1 plumbing and had a much better experience all the way around and our main drain did not need replaced. I was allowed to watch him while he ran the camera and only a small section needs replaced. I am displeased with our experience with Northside plumbing and feel deeply taken advantage of. The office did not even try to make things right when they offered to talk to us after we left our bad review.
